About
Babafela Awosile DVM, MVSc, GradCert (One Health), PhD, DACVPM (Epidemiology)

I am an epidemiologist with a strong research background in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine, with a focus on understanding antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through epidemiological tools and applying multifaceted mitigation strategies, including stewardship, to reduce its occurrence across all stakeholder levels. I have a particular interest in beta-lactamase epidemiology.
My academic training spans Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Public Health, One Health, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics, with formal education and research experience in both Nigeria and Canada.
I obtained my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2009 and a Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine in 2012 from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria, and later completed a Ph.D. in Epidemiology with a focus on AMR at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Canada.
I am a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (DACVPM) with subspecialty certification in both Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology, and I currently serve as an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo. In May 2024, I was appointed to the Epidemiology Partnership Initiative (EPI) Advisory Board at the Texas Epidemic Public Health Institute (TEPHI), where I contribute to strengthening public health data modernization and outbreak readiness across Texas.
My work is grounded in a One Health approach, with ongoing contributions to the Texas Veterinary Medical Association’s One Health Committee and other collaborative initiatives in public health, veterinary epidemiology, and antimicrobial resistance.
